Artificial Intelligence shows us the ghosts all around us

Object removal algorithims have been getting a lot of attention lately. By removing people from images, they have concerned people about automated censorship, changed the way we think about digital media, and even spurred a cultural movement surrounding the aesthetics of absence.

By training a generative deep neural network on thousands of images people provided all over the world, we conjure phantasms into being. In doing so, we commemorate those missing via algorithmic omission.
